Biographical Info.

Katrina Ávila Munichiello was born and raised in a mill town in central Maine, the child of two career educators.

After earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Tufts University and a Master of Public Health degree from Boston University, Katrina began her professional career in the non-profit sector.
She held Director and Assistant Director positions that contributed to the re-organization and long-term strategic planning of several agencies. She also focused heavily on grantwriting, event planning, and the creation of marketing materials such as newsletters, annual reports and fundraising materials.

Throughout these years, Katrina pursued another passion: tea.  For 15 years she has studied its properties, production, origins, and the industry. Launched in 2007, her Tea Pages blog gained a loyal audience with its conversational style, informative posts, and thoughtful essays.  She also created a companion website that provides resources and information to tea lovers.

In 2009, Katrina began her freelance writing career. She offers copywriting services (blogs, web content, product packaging copy, etc.) for tea and food companies and writes for consumer and trade publications in the areas of food and tea (with a particular focus on food allergies), New England, and parenting issues.

Katrina's first book,
a collection of tea-themed essays, titled "A Tea Reader: Living Life One Cup at a Time," will be published by Tuttle Publishing in the Fall of 2011.  The text includes essays by noted tea experts Jane Pettigrew, Roy Fong, Winnie Yu, and James Norwood Pratt, writers from the past such as Louisa May Alcott and Rudyard Kipling, as well as ordinary tea lovers and who relate moments, conversations, trips, and career changes inspired by tea.

After six years of focusing primarily on tea, Katrina took another leap with her writing career. She is now developing several picture books and a middle grade book project. She is a fact checker for a popular cooking magazine and is expanding her editing work into worlds beyond the beverage industry.

Katrina currently lives in Massachusetts with her husband and three children. In addition to writing she is an avid knitter and crafter, soccer-watcher, mystery reader, and lover of PBS and NPR.
